From the Mideast to the Midwest doesn’t seem that far if you follow the news this week. This song is for teachers and other state employees in Wisconsin who are out in force this week to stand up to a ridiculous governor’s ridiculous proposal. Conservatives, especially the Tea Party, are going into union-busting mode and it’s ugly, expedient and self-serving. Unfortunately, it’s not new. The people who teach your kids deserve to be paid well and they deserve the right to bargain. This song is one of very few I have written that are even remotely topical. It’s hard to do well and anyway, we all know musicians shouldn’t be doing our thinking for us. Unfortunately, it’s gotten to that point.
