Nervous Energy—Demo

Click: Nervous Energy

Another demo… this one goes all the way back to the late ’80s/early ’90s and the song was finally recorded this year for Wages Of Sin. That’s a long time in cold storage! The most obvious influence, listening to both this and the finished recording, is Rockpile, the great band that played on Nick Lowe and Dave Edmond’s records before making one recording under their own name and breaking up. Both of those guys are serious students of American music, particularly Blues, Country, Soul and Rock & Roll. And it showed in in every detail on their recordings. Dave Edmonds was always a hotshot guitar player and very convincing nasally tenor. Although he didn’t write much, he was and is a great record producer. His tracks jump out and grab you! Nick Lowe, another great producer, (Elvis Costello, The Pretenders and others) also wrote and his songs are witty, distinctive and built to last. With his work in recent years he may be quietly sneaking up on the title of best writer in the UK. So Semi-Twang was enamored of these guys and this song is pretty much a tribute to their energetic take on Chuck Berry—a guy who recorded 90 miles down the road in Chicago.
