Tongue Tied

Click: Tongue Tied

The idea for this song is a guy going on and on about how he can’t talk. That’s the whole thing. He’s tongue tied and can’t shut up about it. It’s a self cancelling kind of concept and as such, it gives me a weird kind of pleasure. This of course meant I had to write more lyrics than usual and, heaven forbid, learn them! Five verses from this reluctant lyricist is something that never happened before or since. I can pretty much guarantee the future will not hold any epics like that. Added to the brilliant Live At Bob’s trio of Mike Sieger, Bill Dwyer and myself, we have Kelli Gonzalez singing the high octave above me. The whole thing swings—almost as if we know what we’re doing! That of course is debatable. Play this for any jazz fan and you might get an argument. But I bet they’d like Bill’s playing, which, along with all the blues and country influences, shows some real familiarity with jazz and swing.
