Elevator Heel

Click: Elevator Heel

Another one from Live At Bob’s with that sterling tandem, Bill Dwyer and Mike Sieger, enabling. You always hope that your attempts at cleverness come off as something more, maybe something with a little ring of truth or some bite that hides behind the amusing facade. This one is well intended, but I can understand when people check out at the first sighting of a pun. I don’t know what came over me, and I can recall, since this one appeared way back in the mists of time. I worked at the lyric, a little morality tale about dodgy cad who shares a first name and little else with me. (Let the record show I have been happily married twenty-two years and anything before that doesn’t count!) In the last verse, this clever operator experiences a calamitous fall as metal fatigue sets in and the cable lets go. He plunges all the way down to the Fire and Brimstoneville where meets up with a scold named Lucifer. Lu then reminds him why he is there and hands him a coal shovel, in the verse that should have been written but never was, and tells him to get to it and start helping a couple of those politicians.
