You Just Can’t Hate The World

Click: You Just Can’t Hate The World

This song is me trying to imitate the inimitable Mose Allison. If you don’t know Mose, you are missing out on one of the great ones. If he had only wrote Your Mind is On Vacation And Your Mouth Is Working Overtime, his reputation would be cemented. Aside from that gem, he also created many more masterpieces. All of them set his dry wit to a very personal and laid back style of jazz blues that pretty much defines the word “cool.” The lyrics to this one are by Michael Feldman, a rather cool cat himself. Upon reading them, I knew it had to be some sort of blues form that would pay tribute to Old Man Mose. It couldn’t get too raucous. I got lucky with the half-steppy 7th chords, which create a sense of momentum. I then added The John Sieger Brothers on creamy background vocals. I’m lucky they were available. When I found this song was still unposted, I immediately thought of the Tpot globe/trash receptacle. I would pay good money for this item which expresses so much with so little in such a funny way. Tom Shannon (Tpot) and Michael Feldman, a few years apart, in different medium, saying pretty much the same thing: Please, don’t use the world as your personal garbage can!
