Potowatomi

Click: Potowatomi

Michael Feldman does cross cultural with his usual sense of the absurd in this lyric. It’s like Romeo and Pocahantas and not too different from another we worked out called Girl from The Projects. An unattainable beauty from a much different neighborhood—in this case things work out just fine and they teepee happily ever after. I thought of pitching this to the Potowatomi Bingo Casino here in town, but I wouldn’t know where to begin with that! What if they took it wrong? When I cut this with The Skeletons in 2003, we borrowed an electric sitar to further confuse the Indian/Indian picture. Listen to Joe Terry rock the piano on the B section, he is wailing! I like the descending riff and the flip-flop between the two sections—if anything, I feel like the weak link in this chain and would love to have one more shot at that vocal. No do overs in this case and I suppose I can live with that.
