Nobody’s Fool

Click: Nobody’s Fool

I wish I could say I came up with, “She’s original equipment that’s for sure,” but it was Perry Lamek who wrote these lyrics. He also wrote the lyrics to I Fell In Love by Carlene Carter. She was produced by his friend, Howie Epstein. Perry and Howie wrote many other songs and Perry also wrote a song with my pal Phil Lee long before I knew either of them. His main gig is writing for publications like Milwaukee Magazine where he has done profiles of celebrities like Brett Favre. It would be interesting to hear him expound on the differences between these two types of writing. This demo has someone playing lap steel and I’m going to guess it’s Peter Roller, a great guitarist who lives here in Milwaukee. But it could also be Terry Vittone, another great player and songwriter from this area—you’d think I wasn’t even there, but it was a long time ago and I never wrote down session info. I like this song a lot, although I may have had the “Dylan” setting a little high on the vocal. I would sing it differently now—try to make it less obvious just how much I’ve tried to crib from the guy.
