I’m Not Dead With Lou Whitney

Click: I’m Not Dead

Lou Whitney, the Skeleton’s bass player and guiding light, is also Greene County, Missouri’s number one Johnny Cash impersonator. I knew I could call on him when I wrote this tune. It needed to be sung in the baritone/bass range, my nasal tenor would have made the situation feel less than grave (pardon the pun). It took some convincing—Lou argued that it was, after all, my record, but he came around and delivered an outstanding take on this tale of premature internment. The instrumental by D. Clinton Thompson is what I would call a perfectly executed country solo—put this on a tape loop and I could listen to it all day. And the lyrics, of course, are classic Feldman.
