St. John

Click: St. John

From Shaming Of The True with Michael Feldman lyrics, meet St. John. “Got my head on a platter—for the smallest of matters—Put a lid on it hon and call me St. John.” I wanted this to be swampy, slightly smokey and I knew there had to be layered voices, something that is always easy to do when you have unlimited tracks and the John Sieger Brothers on standby. It’s just like Graceland here, really— anytime I need some backing vocals, I just call my boys, John, John, John and Johnny down from the game room where they’ve been gambling away their retainers and we lay on the harmony. (Truth In Blogging Disclaimer: It’s not really like Graceland here, there’s no Jungle Room.) The Subcontinentals did this song live on Mike’s show a couple of years ago and it was really fun. It’s one of those songs that requires me to change back and forth from rhythm to lead, which I have to do a lot with the Subs, being the only guitarist. With Semi-Twang I can relax a little and let the other two fleet fingered guitarists, Jason Klagstad and Mike Hoffman, cover a lot of solos. I’ve got them on retainer.
