Warm Welcome In A Cold Town

Click: Warm Welcome In A Cold Town

This song got a lot of airplay on 88nine, Radio Milwaukee a couple years ago. The lyrics are from Michael Feldman and conjure up my home town of Kenosha, with the factories gone for the most part and the winter wind blowing paper across the new not-so-green spaces. I’m heading down there this Saturday to do his show Whad’ya Know with my band Semi-Twang. Some of the songs on our new CD date back to the time Mike and I were the Elton John and Bernie Taupin of that town (and possibly Racine). Also featured on this track is the sax player from my first band in Kenosha, Phil Clark. He’s a great player but he moved north years ago to Nova Scotia to warm up. For a town well-known for it’s blue collar make up, Kenosha has cranked out a lot of artists, actors, musicians and comedians. There is a lot of pride in being Orson Welles’ home town, even if he wouldn’t acknowledge it! Kenosha also gave the world the actors Don Ameche, Daniel J. Travanty,  Al Molinaro, Mark Ruffalo and comedian Jeff Cesario. The common thread seems to be Italian/American heritage, that could be what’s holding me back! This week I will feature all songs with Mike’s lyrics in honor of Kenosha, the town where the poor man’s Bernie and Elton met!
