The Tall Tall Grass

Click: The Tall Tall Grass

I would much rather try to draw a horse than ride one. Not any easier, just safer. My aversion to the animal has nothing to do with being thrown, that never happened. It’s simply pure, undistilled cowardice. In the presence of these beautiful and powerful beasts you can only feel awe… and an overwhelming fear that they might fall on you and crush you. It takes a lot of courage to get up on a thousand pound of horse and start bossing it around. Oddly enough, that kind of courage can often be found in fourteen year old girls. One of my guitar students, Frankie, is just such a girl, as is her mother Liz. They not only ride them, they also make them jump over things while they are on them! I must have had them in the back of my mind when this song popped out a while back. They are retraining a retired thoroughbred racer who still shows a lot of spirit. From my point of view, I can almost see that pasture and know well the feeling that you still have a few races left in you.
