Gonna Stir Things Up

Click: Gonna Stir Things Up

Back when we were making tons of demos, Mike Hoffman, of Semi-Twang, who engineered and produced them, often commented that we had “fairies dancing on bubbles.” That meant everything was dialed in and coming together. I think that may have inspired the bubble verse in this song. Sonic perfection was a little beyond our grasp at the time, given the limitations we were working with, but use your imagination and you can fill in the gaps. (There actually is a little gap your left stereo speaker will notice.) These tracks from the loft still have a ring to them that I thoroughly enjoy. This one builds quite a bit of tension with the repeated verse before it is finally released in the chorus and, at the end of the bridge, there’s even a key change! The vocal improv at the end was caught in real time on tape, Mike Hoffman called for a chord on we fade, so we made like a barbershop quartet and came up with a nice little seventh chord on the fly. This song was a stone hit in my mind and it’s still a sentimental favorite around the Sieger homestead.
