Sugar Pill

Sugar Pill

One pill makes you larger and the other pill makes you small… This is a somewhat folkie response to a lyric by (surprise!) Michael Feldman. Nice thing about writing with him, is that I have somehow gotten him to do all the heavy lifting. I just read what he sends, either get an idea immediately or move on. If it grabs me, it’s simply a matter of sitting down and tying up a few loose ends. This one is in the former category. There is another nice thing about working with Mike — I don’t feel I really have to know he’s going on about. I mean, I have a vague idea with this one, but I could be wrong. All I know is that it was really fun to write and then sing. In my dusty song-drawer, underneath the socks, I have three unreleased collections of tunes I have written with Mike. This came from one I was going to call “Pretty.” All of the songs from that batch were melodic, mostly acoustic and pop sounding. Love songs, too — either on or off, like a switch. (That describes 99% of pop music and I’m OK with that.) Ultimately I scrapped the project, not because I didn’t like the songs, but because the production wasn’t quite up to snuff. Listening to it now, I don’t think it’s so bad… I even managed work in a couple hot licks!
